Barbados Herbarium of the University of the West Indies

The Barbados Herbarium of the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, Barbados, is a reference collection of dried plant specimens recording the plant diversity of Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean.

In 2005, a joint project was started by the University and the Barbados Museum & Historical Society to create a virtual herbarium to improve public access to this important regional collection. This was made possible by funding from the Ministry of Environment of the Barbados Government, the Peter Moores Barbados Trust and the University of the West Indies.

This virtual herbarium was launched in January 2009 and is linked to a second web-based database, Plants of the Eastern Caribbean, which showcases living plants of this region.

The Barbados Herbarium is listed under the acronym BAR in the worldwide Index Herbariorum.
